The Pre-Professional Musical Theatre program at Transit Dance is an elite, career-focused training ground for aspiring performers who want to excel in professional musical theatre. This immersive two-year, full-time course refines triple-threat skills in singing, dancing, and acting, preparing graduates for major productions in Australia and beyond.

Developed in collaboration with leading industry professionals, the program mirrors the demands of professional productions, bridging the gap between training and a career on stage. Graduates emerge with a nationally recognised Diploma of Musical Theatre, extensive industry connections, and the confidence to step directly into professional auditions and performance opportunities.

The Pre-Professional Musical Theatre pathway at Transit Dance is led by some of the most respected professionals in the industry, providing students with world-class mentorship and training.

At the helm is multi-award-winning choreographer and director Andrew Hallsworth, whose extensive credits include Priscilla Queen of the Desert – The Musical, Muriel’s Wedding The Musical, Anything Goes, Fun Home, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Boy From Oz, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. With a career spanning stage, television, and commercial entertainment, Andrew brings unparalleled industry expertise to the program.

He is joined by Deputy Head Priscilla Stavrou and Head of Dance Jayden Hicks, alongside a faculty of leading choreographers, vocal coaches, and directors, all dedicated to delivering elite-level training in movement, performance, and industry preparation.

With hands-on coaching, career-driven mentorship, and direct industry insight, Transit Dance ensures students train with the best in the business, gaining the skills and connections needed to thrive in the professional musical theatre industry.

Career Outcomes.

Graduates of the Pre-Professional Musical Theatre program have gone on to perform in major stage productions, including The Book of Mormon, Saturday Night Fever, Grease, West Side Story, and Phantom of the Opera. Alumni have also secured roles in Australian national touring musicals, cruise line entertainment, and large-scale international productions.

With strong industry connections and hands-on performance experience, Transit Dance alumni are well-equipped for a diverse range of career opportunities, including lead roles, ensemble work, and creative positions within the performing arts industry.

Performance & Industry Integration.

At Transit Dance, performance is at the heart of training. The Pre-Professional Musical Theatre program prepares students for the demands of professional theatre, musical productions, and live entertainment, ensuring they graduate with the experience, confidence, and industry connections to launch successful careers.

Throughout the program, students perform in four fully staged musical productions, collaborating with renowned directors, choreographers, and musical directors to develop their stagecraft and storytelling abilities. These productions replicate professional rehearsal and performance environments, allowing students to experience the fast-paced world of musical theatre firsthand.

Students also participate in exclusive masterclasses with industry-leading professionals, refining their triple-threat skills in dance, singing, and acting. They receive audition preparation training, develop professional portfolios, and gain exposure to agents, casting directors, and producers, ensuring they are prepared for industry auditions and professional opportunities.

By training in industry-standard rehearsal processes, vocal techniques, and stage performance, students graduate with real-world experience, professional networking opportunities, and the versatility needed to succeed in musical theatre.
