Transit unveils full time Musical Theatre course
Melbourne’s Transit Dance has announced a new course in its repertoire—the Diploma of Musical Theatre—with the aim of training multi-faceted performers for a flourishing career on stage.
The Diploma of Musical Theatre will be spearheaded by Jillian Green who is a seasoned musical theatre performer. Jillian is no stranger to the walls of Transit as she is currently the Performing Arts interim course coordinator while Kim Adam is on maternity leave. Jillian’s professional musical theatre debut was as an original Australian cast member in the Queen musical, We Will Rock You, touring Australia and Japan (LWAA). She was an original cast member and Assistant Dance Captain in Baz Luhrmann’s global premier of Strictly Ballroom - The Musical (Global Creatures) and completed both the Australian and Japan tours of Singin’ in the Rain (Dainty).
“I am so thrilled to be stepping into the new role of Musical Theatre Course Coordinator role here at Transit,” said Jillian Green. “I am extremely passionate about musical theatre and the versatility it takes to be a successful performer in this field. I am excited to be able to share my knowledge and experience with students that share the same interests and passions and help train them to be multi-disciplined artists.”
The Diploma of Musical Theatre at Transit Dance is a two-year full-time course designed to train and guide students who desire a career in musical theatre and build ‘triple threat’ performers who are career-ready. Consisting of a subjects spanning across Singing, Dance, Acting, Voice, Audition Preparation and Practice, Theory, Theatre Studies and more. Classes are tailored to to suit all standards and abilities in both group and private tuition. Transit’s class sizes remain small for each student to receive individual attention and personalised learning so they can thrive in their future.
With a flurry of stage opportunities, sustainable training in all facets of musical theatre and real-world practice that is guided by a supportive team of industry experts, the students of Transit enter the audition room with the confidence, skills and necessary preparation to make a memorable impression.
Transit’s Diploma of Musical Theatre is a performance-based course, and as such, students participate in eight full-scale productions over the two years. Guided by the best movers and shakers in show-business that Australia has to offer, Transit is the ultimate training ground for those wishing to pursue a career in musical theatre.
“The Musical Theatre course at Transit is suited to anyone who has a passion and interest in musical theatre and would like to expand their knowledge and training. They do not need to present themselves as triple threats. We cater and work with all abilities and stream the classes accordingly,” said Jillian Green.
