High School Academy

Welcome from the Artistic Director

The Academy is a space where young artists begin to discover not only how they move, but what they want to say.

At the heart of tonight’s program are works created by the students themselves. Through their solos, each dancer has been invited to make choices, follow ideas and take ownership of their individual choreographic voice. The result is a collection of works that reflects the individuality of this group and the many different ways creativity can take shape.

Alongside these solos, the students present a new ensemble work by Transit alumna Jessica Frost, bringing another artistic voice into the room and giving our dancers the opportunity to experience a professional choreographic process.

Creating work is an important part of becoming an artist. It asks our students to trust their instincts, articulate their ideas and become curious about what might be possible.

We are incredibly proud to give them a stage on which to do exactly that.
