Welcome from the Artistic Director

There are many ways to tell a story on stage, and tonight our Musical Theatre and Performing Arts students move between them.

Our second-year Musical Theatre artists open the door to their rehearsal room with a studio workshop presentation of Company, sharing the process of building character, connection and ensemble. Our first-year Musical Theatre students bring their voices to the stage through cabaret performance, while our second and third year Performing Arts students step forward with self-devised solos shaped by their own ideas and choreographic instincts.

We are also delighted to welcome the voice of a Transit graduate back into the studio, with Isabelle Grozdanovski creating a new ensemble work for our first-year Performing Arts students.

Across very different forms, tonight is ultimately about the same thing: artists learning how to communicate. Whether through movement, music, character or choreography, each work asks our students to make choices and commit to them.

    Description: This high-energy 10-minute performance reimagines the bold spirit of the 80s through a fresh, contemporary lens. Bursting with attitude, confidence, and nostalgia, the piece celebrates the vibrant culture and individuality that defined the decade. Driven by Bronski Beat’s electrifying music,  dynamic footwork, powerful formations, and theatrical performance, combine to create vibrant performance that honours the past while bringing it to life for today’s audience.

    Description: Set in New York City, Company follows Bobbi, a single woman surrounded by her married friends, as she navigates questions of love, commitment, independence and what it means to share a life with someone.

    Rather than unfolding as a traditional linear story, the musical moves through a series of encounters, conversations and relationships that offer Bobbi, and the audience, different perspectives on marriage and companionship. At once funny, complicated and deeply human, Company explores the tension between wanting connection and fearing what we might have to give up to find it.

    Our Musical Theatre students present an abridged rehearsal-room version of the work, stripping the musical back to its characters, music and storytelling
