Youth company celebrates twenty seasons

It's the start of the year, and the start of a brand new journey for our 2020 Origins Dance Company. 

Founded in 2015 by Paul Malek, this exciting performance based youth company provides developing young artists 12 to 25 years old with professional level performance experience, and exposure through multiple full scale performance seasons each year.

Under the guidance of Artistic Director Jayden Hicks, the ODC has performed over twenty original contemporary works shows and worked with choreographers such as Amber McCartney, Robbie Curtis, Paul Malek, Adrian Ricks, Jayden Hicks, Lachlan Hall and many more. 

This year the company has expanded its scope with the addition of a second Bayside company. A collaboration between dance studio Theatre De La Danse and Transit Dance, the Bayside company will join forces with our flagship company in their two season of 2020.

Number #5: The House

Created and choreographed by Lachlan Hall in 2019, this high energy and cinematic work took inspiration from the murder mysteries films of the 1950's and more specifically, the board game Cluedo.

Number #4: Borderline

Part of the 2019 Australian Youth Dance Festival, Borderline was an international co production between Origins and the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland. Rehearsed and devised over a one week period, this performance featuring sixty dancers from opposite sides of the globe, was a true demonstration of unity.

Number #3: Animaux

On the surface a pantomime story about a fox and a pig, but go a little deeper and audiences found a tale about the darker sides of adolescence. Featuring a cast of 12 masked dancers, this classically inspired work by Jayden Hicks packed a real punch for audiences of all ages. 

Number #2: 100 Voices

What in this world do you find unjust? This was the question that was asked to 100 young dancers to inspire the creation of this mesmerising work. A true collaboration between the creative team and cast, 100 Voices wowed sold out audiences with its maturity, creativity and heart. 

Number #1 Sensei

Inspired by the Japanese martial artform of Aikido, Sensei brings together choreographer Jayden Hicks and Akido master Peter Koussoulis. This complimentary mix of dance and martial arts produced a truly inspired and captivating work that left audiences raving.
