DANZA wows at Arts at Twilight

Last Saturday Transit Dance Company, under the guidance of Artistic Director Paul Malek, performed their latest work Danza at the at Mornington Peninsula’s Arts at Twilight festival

Danza, the newest work by Transit Dance’s professional dance company, was created and choreographed by Paul Malek. Featuring a cast of six dancers including Lachlan Hall, Kaitlin Malone, Adrien Tucker,  Larissa Anthony, Oliver Sievers and Alycia Siomos, Danza explores a variety of relationships, inspired by the vibrancy of Spanish life and scenery.

As the cast of Danza arrived at the grounds of The Briars Park in Mount Martha on a bright sunny afternoon, the energy was already alive with excited event staff, young dancers and performers. There was already a sense that this spectacular parkland area was going to host a truly magical night of art.

After a quick tech rehearsal on stage the cast huddled together on a patch of grass at the Briars Park with the events patrons listening to some delightful pre-show entertainment. There was a sense of excitement around as the audience eagerly awaited the performances to follow as the sun set behind an array of food and beverage trucks and luscious green vineyards.

As the true meaning of ‘Arts at Twilight’ eventuated with an array of performances of dance, drama, and music all being shared as the moon was rising from behind the trees and above the stage. The summer breeze created a beautiful atmosphere as act by act shared their love for dance and art with the audience members. Before the performance of DANZA the Transit Dance Company took the stage for an improvised performance with one of the local music artists' soundscapes. It was a mesmerising moment with the local artist wielding electronic music with spoken word as the dancers thrashed and spun in the moonlight.

Following the improvisation the dancers prepared themselves to share Danza to the eager audience.

As the cast performed the vibrant dance work you could tell that it was something truly special as the audience leaned in closer. As the all cuddled up together it was noticeable that some even shed some tears as they were immersed in the world that was created by Paul Malek and the Company.

The response from Danza being performed in such a wonderful sharing ground has been overwhelming and still the letters of gratitude roll in.

Danzå truly blew us away, it was an unbelievably moving performance”

”Absolutely stunning! I was on the edge on my seat absolutely stunning”

”Thank you for sharing this beautiful work with us all

After speaking with Paul Malek after the show it was clear that Transit feels so humbled to share their art and love to the world and will continue to show their support to the arts community.
