Chris Curran

Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder

A driving force in performing arts education, Chris Curran is an accomplished leader with a career spanning acting, casting, theatrical production, and arts business strategy. As CEO and co-founder of Transit Dance, he has been instrumental in transforming the institution into one of Australia’s most respected training grounds for elite dance and performing arts professionals. His strategic vision has positioned Transit Dance as a leader in performance-driven education, bridging the gap between training and the demands of the professional industry.

Chris began his career as a performer in independent musical theatre and stage productions, alongside television appearances in Australian series such as State Coroner. His experience in front of the camera led to a transition into casting and production, where he became Casting Director at Chameleon Casting, working on major television, advertising, and theatrical productions. Collaborating with some of the industry’s most respected directors, including Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amélie) and Tony Rogers (Wilfred), he developed a sharp eye for emerging talent, playing a key role in launching the careers of numerous performers.

Recognising a need for career-focused, industry-integrated dance training, Chris co-founded Transit Dance in 2015, creating a program that prioritises professional experience, artistic excellence, and strong industry mentorship. Under his leadership, Transit Dance has grown into an internationally recognised institution, producing graduates who thrive in contemporary dance companies, musical theatre productions, and commercial entertainment worldwide. His influence extends beyond the studio, having co-founded major industry events such as the Victorian Dance Festival, UNDRGRND, and the award-winning production Yours Truly.

With a deep commitment to innovation in performing arts education, Chris continues to drive Transit Dance’s expansion, industry partnerships, and international reputation. His leadership ensures that Transit Dance is not just a place of training—it’s a launchpad for the next generation of world-class performers, choreographers, and creative leaders.
