Join Transit Dance for an immersive Musical Theatre Intensive for performers aged 16+, designed to develop the skills, versatility and performance qualities required of today’s musical theatre performers.

Led by three-time Helpmann Award-winning choreographer Andrew Hallsworth, whose credits include Priscilla, Queen of the Desert on Broadway and internationally, Muriel’s Wedding the Musical, Anything Goes, Sweet Charity, Kiss of The Spiderwoman and Fun Home.

The day will also feature Samantha Dodemaide, fresh from Broadway’s Moulin Rouge! The Musical, and Australian actor, singer and performer Adam Noviello. Both will share their professional experiences, insights and perspectives from working across the Australian and international musical theatre industry.

Throughout the day, participants will work across three key areas of musical theatre:

  • Vocals – developing vocal performance, musicality, harmonies and confidence while exploring material from a range of musical theatre repertoire.

  • Storytelling & Character – exploring character, intention, relationships and storytelling, with a focus on how performers communicate authentically within a musical theatre setting.

  • Choreography & Performance – working with musical theatre movement and choreography, developing style, physicality and the ability to perform with clarity and character.

Designed for singers, dancers and musical theatre performers, the workshop offers a unique opportunity to train directly with established industry professionals while developing the technical, creative and performance skills needed to work across the diverse world of musical theatre.

Riverlinks and Transit Dance Company are offering a four day creative workshop in the April school holidays giving dance students the opportunity to work with leading Australian choreographers, Paul Malek and Jayden Hicks, to create an original 20 minute dance focussed around their stories. At the end of the four days, this dance piece will be performed alongside another work titled “AND IT PASSED” by Transit Dance Company, at a performance for students’ families, friends and the community.

This unique and rewarding experience provides participants with insight into the contemporary dance creative process in a fun and inclusive environment, whilst fostering creative expression and a sense of belonging.

The workshop is designed for students with previous dance experience who have a creative streak or an interest in furthering their creative ability.

Transit Creative Project (Summer Intensive)

Now in its fourth year, the Transit Creative Project is one of Australia’s leading holiday intensives for dancers aged 12 – 25 who have an interest in furthering their creative ability.

Each project takes place over four days at Transit Dance Brunswick, with participants working with renowned Australian choreographers in a series of intensive workshops to create an original 20-minute work. These works are then presented onstage as part of a double bill with the Transit Pre Professional students at the conclusion of the week.

This year dancers can participate in a Performing Arts (Jazz) Creative Project choreographed by Kim Adam (18-21 Jan), and/or a Contemporary Creative Project choreographed by Paul Malek & Bradley Chatfield (24-28 Jan). Students can enrol in one, or both projects!

This unique and rewarding experience provides participants with insight into the creative process whilst fostering a sense of community and belonging.
